The Sailing Master is second–in–charge on board and must have at least a USL Master Class 5 Ticket as well as a Restricted Coxswain ticket to enable them to operate the South Passage tender for shore excursions.
Both the skipper and sailing master must have current first aid qualifications and one of them must have a MED3 (Marine Engine Driver) certificate. Many of our skippers and sailing masters have qualifications in excess of the minimum requirements.
The Cook manages the ship‘s galley and works wonders producing nourishing and varied meals for the crew and students often in trying conditions.
The three watch leaders are volunteers. We have volunteers of all ages and both genders all endowed with a sense of fun to make the voyage a memorable experience for their watch. They must have completed a structured training course covering safety, sailing and management of students the South Passage way.
All the crew on South Passage hold a Queensland Government Positive Notice Blue Card enabling them to work with children.
We are always looking for people with a spirit of fun and adventure who can work well with teenagers. Sailing experience is useful but not essential because we will teach you how to sail South Passage .
